Over President's Day weekend, we packed the car and headed south to Nazareth, Kentucky, home of Sr. Nancy's congregation: the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. I greatly enjoyed being immersed in the peaceful and tranquil countryside of Kentucky.
We visited the Abbey of Gethsemani in Trappist, where Thomas Merton (1915-1968) once resided; and St. Catherine Farm, home to the Dominican Sisters of Peace. We were graciously welcomed by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth at Sunday morning mass. A visit to Kentucky's "Holy Land" would not be complete without a tour of the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont. We concluded our weekend by visiting the corner of 4th and Walnut (now Muhammad Ali Blvd) in Louisville* where Thomas Merton had his famous "mystical vision."
