My First Christmas in United States

Christmas is a most beautiful holiday in the Catholic Church and a wonderful occasion worldwide. Different people celebrate this event according to their unique traditions and customs. Since I am from Pakistan, I would like to talk about my experience here.

When the advent season begins in Pakistan, people begin cleaning, decorating, and shopping for Christmas decorations for their homes. During the final week of Advent, the church’s Christmas festivities are planned by committees and youth groups.  I’ve seen that a lot of things are similar in the United States, such as how people adorn their homes, yards and streets with various nativity scenes. There are exhibitions and open markets. Also, for Christmas, people welcome their friends

and family to gather for breakfast, lunch, or supper, share presents and enjoy one another.  Although the celebration styles may be different the pleasure and faith of people remain the same.

Christmas is a time for happiness, joy, and love. This time of year, helps us to stay in touch with  loved ones and reminds us to consider those who live far away. It is also a time to remember our loved ones who have passed away and to express gratitude for all of life’s blessings.

I spent Christmas outside of my home country and without my family for the first time. I savor every second of this Christmas experience. Even though I missed my family, my Loretto family showed me so much affection. Because of this love, I have the courage to be a strong and devoted member of the Loretto community.  This verse from scripture (LK12:34) reminds me of this love: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Let Loretto be Loretto forever!
